Please allow Editors-in-Chief to lead class and hand them this page
Before Editor’s meeting, tell students that during today’s staff meeting, they will pick at least one yearbook they enjoyed, and share two things about the book which they think we should implement. Have someone document the name of the book, the pg number, and the idea. They must show the book. This will give them time to prepare during your meeting. If they turned in their assignment Friday, it’s in the basket. If they turned it in before that, tell them to present something from memory.
Editor’s Meeting- First 15 minutes of class. Discuss anything on agenda, have someone take notes. You won’t have time to discuss every thing. First meeting should be in class, so staff members can see you.

Once finished, groups write their collobarated mediums on the board.
Groups then write on their paper four purposes of mass media. Then, the class reviews the actual main purposes: 1)educate 2)persuade 3)entertain 4)express.
Groups then go through the list as a group and identify each medium written on board with which purpose(s) they serve.

- Groups define culture. Class shares definitions and comes up with a collective definition which is posted for all to see. Write the class definition on page eight of your workbook.
- Groups sort cultural terms into seven categories, record the categories on a piece of paper, make sure all group member names are on it, and turn it into the basket.

4/24 A Day English classes- Keep this handout, highlight it, take notes on it, and make it look like you actively read it. This will be a grade. Do not lose this handout. You should constantly refer to the directions throughout the class period.
- Mr. Dunlap hands out this blog and students volunteer to read aloud to class, the assignment listed for today assignments
- If you didn't finish your test. Mr. Dunlap will pass back your unfinished test for you to finish. If you didn't take your test, you will need to take it. Make sure you record your answers on a separate piece of paper. ALL STUDENTS MUST REMAIN QUIET UNTIL ALL TESTS HAVE BEEN TURNED INTO MR. DUNLAP. DO NOT TALK WHILE STUDENTS ARE TESTING.
- If you finish the test before others you should work on any of the following (QUIETLY at your seat)
-Make sure your R#45 (example still on board) has at least 15 entries. Remember the things you record should support your thesis. The more book support you record on R#45, the better your paper will be.
-Go to the table at the front of class, and take your own copy of the Literary Analysis Guide and the two model essays on Literary Analysis (conch paper, Fitzgerald paper). Read the part about support for the Literary Anaysis paper from Topic Sentence to Clincher/Concluding Sentence. Then look at the support in the model essays. Compare the items the guide tells you belong in the support with the model essays.
4. When EVERYONE has turned in their test to Mr. Dunlap, he will handout the following:
-Peer Editing Sheet Introduction
When you get this handout, write your name where it says writer's name.
Before you exchange introductions with someone in the class, make sure you consider the following:
-that their introduction must include the name of the book and author
- it should have a linking sentence before the thesis that connects the thesis to the rest of the introduction
- that you should be honest about whether the person's intro. is engaging. If it isn't and you write that it is, you aren't helping the person.
-the background information should give enough background so that if someone hadn't read the book, they would understand it. It shouldn't throw in book terms or names without explaining who or what they are.
5) Have someone you trust fill out your editing sheet while reading your introduction. You can have more than one person fill it out, just make sure they all put their names.
6)DUE Monday: Support for Essay. See ABOVE regarding reading the Guide/Models for directions and R#45. If you do not have your support on Monday, then you will not have the advantage of someone reviewing it for you.
3/25 - B Day English Classes
- Mr. Dunlap to handout this blog. A volunteer will read today's directions. You do not need to read the directions for the A day classes, as you have already completed that lesson.
- This is your blog to keep, please write on it, highlight it, take notes on it, or make it look like you have actively read it. I will grade you on this when I return. Keep it.
- Mr. Dunlap will handout the following:
-Things Fall Apart- Peer Editing the Body
-Things Fall Apart- Literary Analysis Conclusion
4)If you wrote your support, as was assigned, exchange papers with someone you trust and have them fill out your Peer editing worksheet. If you didn't write your support, then write your support. You can have more than one person edit your support for you. Also, have someone edit your paper for spelling, punctuation, or grammar errors. You might want to read your paper out loud to the person so you catch some of your own mistakes, and also because they may not completely understand what you are trying to write.
5) Next look at the Literary Analysis Guide handout and Model Essays. Read what you are supposed to have in the Conclusion of your Essay. Then read the model essays' conclusions. You can do this by yourself, or you can do it in your group. After reviewing the conclusion, write your conclusion on the paper provided. Due Tuesday if you don't finish in class.
6) When you come to class on Tuesday, you should have the following. An introduction peer editing sheet- filled out in completion for your introduction, plenty of support and the support editing sheet filled out completely by a peer, a conclusion.

Part 1) On your OWN, Brainstorm the following 3 categories for things that would have made this year better. Teacher explains in detail.

You can use any of the following to help you with your list: (expectations, pricing, equipment needed to produce, equipment needed to teach, workshops and price, quality, performance of yearbook rep, performance of photographer, performance of staff, ways to supplement income, solutions to common yb issues (no sales), senior, uc, personality pictures, quality of products, advertising/posters, software, delivery of product, commission pictures, coverage, etc)
Part 2) Join together with 1 or 2 group members and

2)Add to the group list things which you brainstorm as a group
3) Search through current yearbooks' colophons for resources they had which you could potentially add to your group list/chart

3 - Pentium 4 computers, 800 FSB Systems or comparable with:3.0 Ghz, 1Gb Ram (minimum), 200 Gb HD, DVD-RW, Windows XP Professional, flat screen 19-inch monitors (minimum)
This means you will have to search the internet, call places, ask experts.
For items that describe quality or expectation from people, be specific about what you expect. Also think about potential problems with the item you are asking for and include solutions. For example:
Photographer
1) The photographer will provide student identification cards for students grades 9th through 12th personalized by student name and student number by September 1st. All IDs must be in the same format as the IDs printed on campus. Examples will be given to accommodate. Photographer will print these pictures from all student pictures taken during senior photography or underclass photography. If a student refused to take a picture or enrolls after pictures, the photographer is not liable to produce an ID for that student.

1) Staff members and their parents will sign a contract stating if they do not meet their deadlines, they will receive a zero on that deadline, which most likely will result in failure of the term, and potential removal from the class. Students and their parents will be expected to abide by their signed agreement.
When finished, you should have 3 categories of well-thought out, researched, and detailed expectations. This must be typed and be reviewed for mistakes or grammatical errors before turning in. Each category must have a minimum of 10 detailed expectations. Extra credit will be given to those groups that have more than 10 per category. Make sure each group member's name is on typed project, and that it has been saved to a secure location so that it can be accessed again.

Remember the warning given to you at the beginning of this week. If you haven't finished something that is past due, it has to go into the publisher.
This means if you don't do it, and I get to it before you, you don't get a grade for it. I've already started doing it. Remember this isn't just for a grade, we won't get our yearbook if we don't turn the work in.
Students who didn't sell enough ads will have a chance to make that up through yearbook sales.
Next week is FCAT. A lot of you juniors/seniors think you are going to skip. We will be working on finishing the sports spreads we couldn't this week (Only baseball, track, flag football). We also will be working on proof corrections. Keep in mind if you don't show up, then you can't fix your proofs. I cannot wait around while you skip school to let you fix them. We our way past our deadlines. So either you come to yearbook and fix them, or I will and you won't get the grade for it. It's your choice.
Also remember you can always come after school and work.
Also, now that we should be finished with out deadlines, the only way you can leave class is by first asking me, then letting me sign your planner, then signing out on the hall pass log and then back in on the hall pass log. If you don't follow this procedure, I will be forced to write you up. Some of you have been taking advantage, and I'm tired of it.
Also, if you are just sitting around the class because you assume you're finished with things, you are receiving a class participation grade of zero. It is a yearbook class. How many times do I have to remind you that people need help with things. There is always, always something that needs to be done. Please get up and ask and stop trying to text message your friends. Laziness will not be tolerated.
